Mission
"Let the little children come to me." In Christ's own words we are beckoned to draw the little ones to Him. It is in this spirit that the staff of the Religious Education Program strives to find each student where he/she is and encourage them to take steps closer to God. All children are welcome to participate in the Religious Education Program of St Boniface and St Mary, however, the program is primarily designed for students in the public school system. The purpose of the program is to aid parents in their primary role as catechists by providing a welcoming faith-based learning environment for young catholics in grades Pre-K through 6.
Overview
The Religious Education Program welcomes children between the grades of Pre-K through 6. Children entering the Pre-K program must be planning to enter Kindergarten the following school year and be at least 4 years of age. The primary curriculum used in our ministry is the "Blest Are We" series published by Pearson Education. It is a comprehensive program designed to lay the foundations for the Faith through interative workbooks, activities, songs, and more.
RE Year - Classes begin in September after Labor Day and finish in April the week prior to Mother's Day. They are held in the Angelo C Caserta Center adjacent to St Boniface Church. Classes begin at 9:00AM and end at 10:15AM before the 10:30AM Mass. All students are dropped off in middle room of the second floor facility by a parent, and are escorted to the Cafeteria for Pickup at 10:15AM.
RE Class Format - At 9:00AM, we begin together with prayer and a fun activity. At 9:10 students are dismissed to their classes. At 10:15, students are escorted to the Cafeteria for pickup by a parent.
RE Class Sizes - Class sizes vary between 5 and 12 students in any given year. Each grade has its own dedicated catechist and high school or jr high assistant.
RE Staff - Each member of the teaching staff is an active member of the Catholic Faith Community. They are all given the opportunity to increase their skills and knowledge through Archdiocesan certification classes and workshops, retreats, and personal spiritual growth. Without their help, there would be no RE Program.
Cost - The Religious Education Program is offered by the parish as a free service. All families are encouraged to become members of the $7 a month Club which goes to support all Parish Religious Education Ministries including the RE Program, Jr High Ministry, High School Ministry, Adult Faith Formation, and RCIA.
Sacrament Preparation - Students in the 2nd grade prepare to recieve both the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Reception of Holy Communion. Collaboration between the RE Program and Piqua Catholic School results in a solid foundation for the reception of the sacraments as well as the active building up of the Catholic Community. All students of both the school and the RE Program are expected to participate in special events throughout the year geared toward enriching the faith formation process. The current Calendar of Special Dates can be downloaded above.
Policies - A list of the Religious Education policies can be downloaded above. Policies are covered annually at the Open House and are changed and modified to better serve the families and children.
